For nonland cards “play” and “cast” are equivalent; the main difference between the terms is that you play lands but do not cast them. However “putting a permanent onto the battlefield” is not equivalent to either of those things, so Recycle doesn’t trigger.
Does copying a card count as casting?
To copy a spell, activated ability, or triggered ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell isn’t cast and a copy of an activated ability isn’t activated. (See rule 601, “Casting Spells.”) Choices that are normally made on resolution are not copied.
Does cycling a card count as casting a spell?

Can you counter a cycle card?
Cycling is an Activated Ability, meaning you can’t just counter it with something that reads “Counter target spell”. It has to be an effect like Stifle, which counters Activated Abilities.
Does foretell count as casting a spell?
You may cast it on a later turn for its foretell cost (the mana cost listed as part of the foretell keyword). Foretelling is optional, so you can always just cast the spell as normal if you’re looking for a more immediate impact. Foretell essentially splits the cost of a card over two turns.

Regular casting restrictions still apply. So you can cast instants and cards with flash on your opponent’s turn. You can only cast creatures, sorceries, etc. on your own turn.
Do you have to copy a spell to cast it?
no it doesnt count as a cast. when u cast the spell tht copies the instant or sorcery, it just copies it. Casting = Playing. A good example would be Storm. Storm copies each spell PLAYED before it.
Can a call to the kindred cast a spell?
Call to the Kindred doesn’t cast spells (announce, move to the stack, make choices, pay costs), it just has you put cards directly onto the battlefield. It doesn’t trigger Oyobi. For older cards with confusing text, it’s always a good idea to check Gatherer for the current Oracle text.
