More info on this answer and question. Link monsters cannot be in defense mode as they do not have any defense points, also changing to defense mode changes the zones they point to as the card orientation has changed. Please see these links for more information.

Can I side deck link Monsters?

VRAINS anime, and were introduced to the OCG and TCG in the Structure Deck: Cyberse Link. These cards are placed in the Extra Deck. Like other Extra Deck monsters, Link Monsters cannot exist in either the hand or the Main Deck (even with card effects).

Can you link summon with face down monsters?

Monsters being used as Link Materials for a Link Summon must be face-up monsters in your Monster Zones. Therefore, face-down Defense Position monsters in your Monster Zones cannot be used as Link materials for a Link Summon.

Can I XYZ summon in my main phase 2?

Some cards and effects can only be activated during Main Phase 2, such as “Emergency Assistance” and the effect of “Sweet Corn”. Some Xyz Monsters, such as “Stellarknight Constellar Diamond” and “Downerd Magician”, can be Xyz Summoned using an Xyz Monster as Xyz Material only if Xyz Summoned during Main Phase 2.

Can you monster Reborn link monsters?

Yes. And they can be summoned anywhere, not just the Extra Monster Zone.

Can a link monster be placed in defense position?

Link Monsters can only exist in face-up Attack Position (they do not have a DEF value) and cannot be placed in or changed to Defense Position (either manually or through a card effect); this is because rotating the card into Defense Position would change the directions its Link Arrows point to.

Can a monster be flipped from defense to attack?

If a monster battles due to a card effect that conducts damage calculation without declaring an attack, it can still change its battle position afterwards. You cannot change monsters to face-down Attack Position, neither manually nor by a card effect. Face-down Defense Position monsters are always flipped when changed to Attack Position.

Can you flip Link Monsters to face down?

You can use a card called Darkness Approaches which allows it to be face down either attack or defense relevant to the card’s current position. Can a link monster be treated as a link material?

When using a Link Monster for a Link Summon, it can be treated as 1 Link Material, OR multiple Link Materials equal to its own Link Rating.
