Can you use custom models in 40k?

Most places I have seen are fine so long as the model is WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) – which means that it’s easily recognisable for what it is and what it’s equipped with (i.e. customised shoulder pads/ head swaps etc are fine, but don’t try and pass a lasgun off as meltagun).
Can you use custom miniatures in Warhammer?
All miniatures in your collection must be Citadel or Forge World miniatures. That being said, if you’re getting creative with conversions then generic parts such as plasticard, wire and brass rod are fine to use, but any cast miniature parts specifically designed for models must be produced by Citadel or Forge World.
Are conversions allowed in tournaments?
If you do convert something smaller or larger than the original model you must be prepared to be lenient if you do face such a accusation. If your opponent states they would hit the side armor if the tank hadn’t being converted wider than the original let them take the shot, after all it’s just a game.
Can Forge World models be used in tournaments?
Unfortunately, they only had house rules and were not official for tournaments. As the editions rolled on, most tournaments did not allow Forge World models. The reason for this was that not everyone has access to the models, and many times the rules for those models were a bit on the powerful side.

Does base size matter in 40K?

Unless you’re in a competitive tournament environment, base sizes don’t really matter all that much assuming you are reasonable with it.
